The mayor of Calella, Montserrat Candini, headed the Tourism delegation present at the WTM, from November 4 to 6.
Calella returns one more year to the World Travel Market in London, one of the most important trade fairs in the international tourism industry. The mayor of Calella, Montserrat Candini, headed the municipal delegation present at the British capital, accompanied by Grace Livingston, responsible for the Tourist Office.
From November 4 to 6, Calella has participated in the institutional stand of Catalonia under the international tourism brand Costa Barcelona, along with other destinations present at the counter of the Tourist Promotion Office of the Diputació de Barcelona. The WTM had the participation of about 2,300 tourist destinations, more than 9,000 exhibitors and more than 90,000 attendees.
During the fair, the city council’s agenda of meetings included leading travel agencies and different tour operators, with the aim of showing Calella as a consolidated destination for family and sports tourism to the British market, waiting for how the 'brexit' will be developed and how it will affect its tourism industry.
The British market continues to be one of the main emitters of tourism for the city. From May to October of this year, a total of 227,516 overnight stays of tourists from the United Kingdom were registered in Calella, and although it has meant a decrease of 7.12% compared to the same data of 2018, the British market has positioned itself in 3rd place in the ranking of the visitor countries, behind the Spanish and Russian. The German market this year has suffered a steeper decline (-14.47% overnight stays), ranking 4th in the ranking of the main markets.
Otherwise, visits to the tourism website calellabarcelona.com from the United Kingdom are maintained with data similar to those of the previous year, with a slight decrease of 7%. The visits from London stand out and, in relation to the most visited contents, an interest is shown in the calendar of activities (things to do), gastronomy (where to eat), shopping, water activities, beaches and the Lighthouse.
