The Spanish market is currently the leading source of tourists to Calella
Following the actions of tourism promotion aimed at the Spanish market and as a result of the great success of last year's edition, Calella has been present once again at Expovacaciones, held in Bilbao from May 4 to 6. It is a tourism fair aimed at the general public, with more than 200 exhibitors and about 75,000 visitors on average.
Every year, Calella takes this opportunity to publicize the city's highlights among the attendees, giving priority to the offer of Family Tourism, Sports Tourism, Culture, Nature and Gastronomy. In this edition, it has been decided to hire a stand of 30 square meters, with a counter and its own graphic image and, therefore, a more attractive presence and greater visibility at the fair.
In addition, as a novelty of this year and the result of the collaboration agreement of the Diputación de Barcelona with Viajes Eroski, it has been run a co-marketing campaign to give visibility to the tourist offer in the districts of Barcelona, which includes different promotional actions of all destinations and tourism resources, both in the digital and physical media, and taking advantage of the extensive network of travel agencies and supermarkets of the Eroski Group in the Basque Country and its remarkable presence in other communities in northern Spain. As an outstanding action, and coinciding with our presence in Bilbao, on May 4 at night in the center of Bilbao, a presentation of 'Barcelona is much more' was carried out to publicize the joint offer of the city and the province to media and tour operators of the Basque Country.
The Spanish market, in the first place of the ranking of overnight stays in Calella.
The Basque Country is considered a very important market for the city, since last year, according to the INE, Basque tourists made a total of about 3,400,000 overnight stays in Catalonia, ranking 3rd in the list of visitors from other communities in Spain. According to data from the Generalitat de Catalunya, more than 521,000 tourists from the Basque Country visited Catalonia, with the longest stay trips with an average of 6.5 days.
Referring to Calella, tourists from Spain -including those of the Basque Country- occupy the first position in the absolute ranking of nationalities by number of overnight stays (465,825, 23.5% of the total). During 2017, the percentage of tourists from Spain who came on holiday to Calella increased by 6.92% over the previous year, showing steady growth during all months of the tourist season. Undoubtedly, the Spanish market is positioned as a priority market for our destination.
