This seal is awarded to hotels, apartments, restaurants, wineries, beaches, museums and tourist offices, among others. The growing number of distinctions in the Maresme region highlights the commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement. In 2018, 56 companies and services were recognized; the year 2019, 66; and in the last call, in 2020, the number has increased to 75.
The Biosphere Commitment seal provides distinction to all those companies, services and destinations that bet on and contribute to the growth of sustainable tourism and continuous improvement. This year Calella has received 8 distinctions: the Calella Tourist Office; Playa Grande, Playa de Garbí and Playa de las Rocas; the Atzavara Apartments; the Espanya and Neptuno hotels; and the Peix Grillat Restaurant.
Among the entire Maresme region, the number of distinctions awarded grows year after year: in 2018, 56 companies and services were recognized with the Biosphere Commitment seal; in 2019 there were 66; and in the last call, in 2020, the figure has increased to 75.
The Biosphere seals ceremony to the companies and services of the region will be online due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this videoconference, the seals will be delivered to all the Barcelona regions entities, which represent a total of 750. The Calella entities will receive their distinctive at the event, which will be held on May 7 at 9.30 am.
The Biosphere seal is awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute, an independent body created in 1995 with the aim of promoting sustainable development actions and programs in tourist destinations and companies. It was created after the World Conference on Sustainable Tourism, with the support of UNESCO, the World Tourism Organization, the United Nations and the European Union.
