Studies such as "Profile and habits of tourists in the Barcelona environment" are necessary to get to know more and better the tourist that visits Calella.
The study, prepared by the Diputación de Barcelona, becomes a key piece for the design of the Tourist Intelligence System (SIT) and is part of the roadmap defined through the Calella Smart Tourism Destination Action Plan, with the aim of improving knowledge to identify patterns of tourists’ behaviour in Calella. It is a study carried out every year since 2011. In total, 400 surveys were carried out in different locations in Calella from February 19 to December 7, 2017.
According to data published in the report "Profile and habits of tourists in Calella 2017" more than 45% of the tourists that visit Calella repeat and they do so accompanied by an average of 4.2 people. Likewise, surveyed tourists value the municipality with 8.0 out of 10 and almost 95% would recommend the municipality to friends and family.
60.3% of tourists are men, 39.8% are women and the average age is 47.4 years. As for the nationalities, 65% were international tourists and 35% national and spend an average of 6.8 nights in Calella.
Nine out of ten tourists have come to Calella for leisure as the main reason. The percentage of tourists who are in our city for the first time is almost identical to 2016 and is around 50%. The average number of times they have been in the municipality in the last ten years is 7.7. The travel group consists of 4.2 people. The main travel groups are the couple (47.3%) and the family (24.3%).
Of the total number of respondents, 63.8% used internet, social networks and/or blogs to plan the trip and more than 50% chose Calella without contemplating any other alternative. As for the contracting of the trip, this is done mainly by own account in a 71%. Otherwise, it should be noted that 50.3% of respondents book their holidays more than 1 month in advance.
As for the cost, the cost of accommodation per person per day is € 42.8 and the cost in destination per person per day of € 30.8. The tourists surveyed who spend the most are those who come from abroad and do so for entertainment purposes. The distribution of destination spending places food (53.2%), purchases (32.6%), entertainment (7.8%) and internal transport (5.4%) as priorities.
The most carried out activities in Calella by the surveyed tourists are the peaceful walks, relax and go to the beach, followed by gastronomy and shopping. The surveyed tourists give a good score to Calella and value it with a 8 of 10. 94% would recommend spending the holidays in Calella.
