Calella is known for its beautiful beaches, its promenade and its people. Many come to enjoy the warm weather, some are attracted by its variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. A lively and vibrant city that captivates those who visit us at any time of the year. Culture is very much alive in Calella and it is expressed in many ways through music festivals, dance performances, theater, fairs and art exhibitions.
Don’t wait for a rainy day to visit our museums and art galleries. Taking a walk through the city center, you can go to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, there you will find a red door that sure will catch your attention. It is the entrance to the Old Town Hall, where is the city's Exhibition Hall. It is a space inaugurated in 2008 intended to host exhibitions by artists, collectives and cultural associations, both local and outside the city.
The Exhibition Hall of the Old Town Hall of Calella offers a program of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. You can find exhibitions of painting or photography but also of engraving, textiles or design pieces. It is the space for artistic creation in all its aspects and they have a place from emerging talents, established artists, to samples of folkore and also exhibitions of young creators.
Perhaps you will like to know that originally the Old Town Hall building was the first hostel in the city in the late Middle Ages and later it became a bakery, a butcher and other community utilities. You can still find inside a part of that time: it is the beautiful stone point arch cover that gave way to the old butcher shop. History, culture and art in the same place!
