Paella on the beach
We as Calellencs say that when you think about rice, it brings the smell of the sea, family, beach bars and friends. Rice leads to conversations, smiles and raised glasses, with wines of the region or good beers. Its recipe is a tradition and only the best local ingredients are used for each variety. This dish manages to bring together both the sea and the mountains in the essence of the Mediterranean diet. It is a prelude of the most cherished dream: the nap under the palm tree.

The touch of wood, leather wine skins or aromas of the recently cut hams are the same as a century ago. Fish in the morning
Fish is a favourite food product of Calella gastronomy. This is very clear to us. If we talk about cooking fish, grandmother’s recipes have endured over time and can still be tasted. The guests of honour have been known for a long time: gallo de Sant Pere (Saint Peter´s cock), snapper, sea bream, sea bass or cod. And if we talk about “Bastina”, the denied aioli (garlic and oil dressing) comes to mind. As an essential dish, there are sand eels and grilled prawns with a white wine, courtesy of the house of our Alella neighbours. Without a doubt, a huge success.

Vermouth in the sun
In Calella, neither the bicycles nor the terraces are just for summer. For more than 300 days a year the sun sheds light on one of our favourite moments. Vermouth at noon is perhaps one of the most distinctive of our lifestyle features, it is as simple as comforting. An appetizer that in a street, in a square or on the beach is always looking for a common denominator: sun, sun and sun. For those who prefer a beer, the ritual is the same: find a corner to enjoy your break to open up an appetite and get prepared for the main meal.

Around the World in a casserole
Calella is a land of passage that, very often has a charming effect on its visitors. Newcomers from around the world have established their residence in Calella, and with it, new flavours have expanded our palates. From Sushi to Pad Thai, guacamole and Argentinian veal, it goes through the most universal proposals such as Italian or Chinese cuisine, we can clearly go on a tour through the gastronomic world as if we were traveling, but without leaving Calella. We consider this a cultural privilege in addition to a culinary one.

Meat as usual
Thinking about meat is synonymous to barbecue, people and meetings, whether it is summer or winter, outdoors or at the edge of a fire. The aroma of oak scented meat reminds us of fields and traditional herders. Among dishes and pots are the well-kept recipes that are passed down from parents to children, such as: Pig trotters casserole, traditional oven baked lamb, veal with mushrooms, snails or the native recipe par excellence, grilled Catalan sausage with beans. And everything is always eaten with tomato bread, a culinary heritage, or a good aioli, with lots of garlic and oil. Bon appetit!

The Mediterranean mood feels relaxed with the moon. Spring, summer, autumn or winter, it doesn not matter, when the night falls, we the Calellenses show off our innate ability to dance . Both in bars and clubs as well as at the different festivals, the offer covers all tastes: Jazz, chill-out, habaneras or rock and roll, one thing is clear, the pace never stops. In summer, music and cocktails are accompanied by a very special feeling: The feeling of the cool sand under bare feet on the beach during summer nights.
