The Mayor of Calella, Montserrat Candini, has headed the Calella Town Hall delegation that has attended the International Tourism Fair in Italy.
Calella has participated for the second time at theTTG Incontri in Rimini, Italy, from 10th to 12th October. The fair, that reached its 55th edition this year, is the Italian reference event for the promotion of the international tourism in Italy and one of the most important European B2B fair for tourism industry. The Calella delegation stands along with other exhibitors at the stand of the Catalan Tourism Agency and sharing the Barcelona region’s counter with the Tourist Promotion Office of the Diputació de Barcelona. As last year, the Mayor of Calella, Montserrat Candini, who is also responsible for the Tourism Area, has moved again to Rimini to attend this event, together with Jaume Bagó, Tourism Area Technician.
TTG Incontri is Italy’s leading trade fair in the industry, and the best attended by national and international tourism professionals. Last year it had 72,000 visitors (+5% compared to 2016) and participated 2,550 exhibitors, 750 journalists and 300 bloggers. It is the key event for the sector and the main marketplace to sell tourism products, network, exchange views and find new ideas to attract Italian and European tourists, as explained by the Mayor of Calella, Montserrat Candini: "The City Council value very positively attends all tourism fairs. It is a way of explaining exactly what we are as a city, what are the different proposals we offer as a tourist destination and, obviously, also the different sporting and cultural events organized in Calella throughout the year."
Catalonia is the main destination for Italian tourists traveling to Spain
According to ISTAT (Instituto Nazionale di Statistica), 81% of trips made by Italians during 2017 were carried out within their own country and only 19% went abroad. Among the latter, the preferred destinations were France and Spain. Spain was the preferred destination for Italians when it comes to long vacations. For trips and business trips, France occupies the first position.
Of the 4.2 million Italian tourists who arrived in Spain during 2017, the preferred destination was Catalonia (28%), followed by the Balearic Islands (18%) and Madrid (13%). The most appreciated products by Italian tourists in Catalonia are cultural activities, leisure and gastronomy. The average age of Italian tourists is 39, only behind Russians and Japanese, according to the INE.
